Haze subsidy and your health: common questions

How much will I pay under the Haze Subsidy Scheme?

If you are aged 18 & below or 65 & above, or hold a CHAS Blue, CHAS Orange or Medical Fee Exemption Card, you pay $10 or the total bill, whichever is lower. Pioneer and Merdeka Generation cardholders pay $5 or the total bill, whichever is lower. Public Assistance cardholders pay nothing. No additional GST is charged on these fees.

What do I need to bring?

Your NRIC, birth certificate or student ID, and your government scheme card if you have one. A physical or digital card is fine.

When do children and seniors qualify?

Children qualify if the visit is before their 19th birthday. Seniors qualify if the visit is on or after their 65th birthday.

I don't have a CHAS card. Can I still get the subsidy?

If you are aged 18 & below or 65 & above, you do not need a card. Otherwise, if your household's monthly income per person is $2,300 or below, you may qualify for a CHAS Blue or Orange card. Apply online ahead of time at chas.sg. Applications are generally processed within 15 working days.

Are teleconsultations covered?

Yes. Our teleconsultations run from 9am to 5pm. They may be subsidised for eligible patients with haze-related conditions, where clinically appropriate. If our doctor advises you to come in for an in-person consultation, the subsidy applies to that visit instead.

What if I have a haze-related condition and a cold at the same time?

You still pay no more than $10 if you are eligible, no more than $5 if you are a Pioneer or Merdeka Generation senior, and nothing if you are a Public Assistance cardholder.

Can I get the subsidy every time I visit?

Our doctor decides at each visit whether the condition being treated is haze-related. If it is, you can get the subsidy. You can receive it for only one visit a day.

What if I am unwell for reasons not related to the haze?

The scheme covers only haze-related conditions, not other medicines or treatment. For conditions not related to the haze, you may be able to claim under other schemes such as CHAS, the Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP) or your company's medical benefits, if you are eligible. Please check with our doctor.

Can my company's medical benefits pay for the rest of the bill?

Yes, if you are eligible for the subsidy, the rest of the bill can be covered in part or in full by your company's medical benefits, depending on your company's policy.

Do I need to sign a consent form?

No. By receiving the subsidy, you are deemed to have agreed to your data being released to MOH and authorised parties to run the scheme. See the notice displayed at our clinics for more information.

How do I know if a clinic is taking part?

All 11 Central 24-HR Clinics are taking part. Participating clinics display a Haze Subsidy Scheme poster and/or a Public Health Preparedness Clinic (PHPC) decal, and MOH lists them on its haze page.

Can I use the Haze Subsidy Scheme at a polyclinic?

Yes. All Singapore Citizens are eligible for the scheme at polyclinics. At GP clinics such as ours, it is for the eligible groups listed on this page.

When does the Haze Subsidy Scheme end?

MOH has not announced an end date. The scheme will run until MOH announces its end, and we will update this page when it does.

Can the haze make you sick?

According to MOH, a few days of haze is generally not a major health problem for healthy people, beyond irritation of the eyes, nose and throat. If you feel unwell, especially if you are elderly, a child, or have a chronic heart or lung condition, see a doctor.

Do I need an N95 mask during the haze?

MOH says N95 masks are not needed for short-term exposure, such as commuting between home and school or work, or when you are indoors. Healthy people who must be outdoors for several hours when the PSI forecast is hazardous (above 300) may wear a well-fitted N95 mask. The elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic heart or lung disease may wear one when the forecast is very unhealthy (above 200) and they must be outdoors for several hours. If you have trouble breathing, check with your doctor before using an N95 mask. Masks are not covered by the Haze Subsidy Scheme.

How do I check today's haze level (PSI)?

Check the latest PSI readings and activity advice at haze.gov.sg. MOH considers a PSI reading of 101 and above unhealthy.
